Serenity has landed

I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last post. It's been a busy month, including an almost-two-week, 3500+ mile road trip. About a week before we left, our Simple Pump arrived:

Pump in a Tube or two
The pump was installed, as advertised, in about two hours, with the generous help of Don, who works on pumps for a living and was curious about our hand pump. We now have water!

Water!

As soon as the pump was in and working, we began the process of moving to This Land (which will probably be renamed Raven's Nest, which apparently it was for many years). First, we moved the bunnies to the dog kennel, which Rosa the Chewdle doesn't call home. Then we hitched Serenity up and hauled her out to her new home:

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ....

For those of you who don't believe we live in the Wild West, this was the view out our front gate the day we moved Serenity:

Now it's time to go pump some more of that fresh water....

    1. Thanks, Preston. There are more things, which will take another post, but we're here and loving it. Except for the 90+ degrees the last couple days. Gotta get some shade up. We look forward to seeing you next time you're in the neighborhood.

  2. Hi, I just spent over an hour researching Montello to determine whether or not you will survive. It seems there is actually life there in the form of Alpaca farms and fourth of July parades, and even a helicopter for emergencies?? Is there real winter there? The only question is whether the wind will blow you into another state. You may end up in Oz...perhaps this explains the presence of terrifying space monkeys. I noticed the alpaca farm residents are interested in permaculture and have met Geoff Lawton, the "greening the desert" guru...just got my permaculture certification from Australia (i telecommuted) and have no idea what i will do with it...have fun & keep in touch! C's wedding is coming up fast....

    1. Hi, Ruth. This is an interesting little town, and we're confident we'll survive. Some of the nicest people I've ever met live in and around Montello. As for "real winter," that depends on your definition. There can be snow, although we're told it's usually not heavy, and bitter cold (like 20+ below zero). We hope to be dug in by the time winter arrives (probably around October 1.) The wind is another story. Today, the temporary roof (3 sheets of plywood and assorted boards) over the bunny pen blew off. It wasn't fastened down yet, so guess what's now number 1 on The List? I saw that you got your permaculture certification (on LinkedIn?). Congratulations. You can come visit and help us "green the desert." If we can just tame that wind a bit. And don't worry, the wedding will be over before you know it, and you'll have time to think again. (Been there, done that.)Take care, and say "hi" to Mike ....
